In 2007, the Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation was established by local citizens who recognized the need to provide additional financial support to the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department.
Increasing community expectations, budget reductions, rapidly changing equipment and technology and the need for a flexible funding option separate from the city budgetary process led to the formation of the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. It was subsequently approved by both the Palm Beach Gardens City Council and the Police Department itself.
The PBG Police Foundation has raised almost a million dollars to support the efforts of the Police Department to date.
The Mission of the Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation is to secure public funding to enhance the safety of our community and the effectiveness of our Police Department.
The Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation seeks to create a safer Palm Beach Gardens by funding vital equipment and training needs of the Police Department as well as related community outreach and crime-prevention programs. With a shrinking city budget and rising community needs, this is more difficult – and more important – than ever.
The Police Foundation raises funds, administers grants, and promotes awareness of public safety issues. The Foundation exists to create a safer Palm Beach Gardens community.
Founded in 2007 as an independent non-profit, charitable organization we are dedicated to fostering public safety through community building, education and outreach.
While the City budget provides the necessary resources to fund operations of the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department, a number of programs are underfunded or not funded due to a lack of resources. The foundation was created as a catalyst in responding to this need, so that no innovative program would be left behind.
Role Of The Foundation:
With nearly 90% of the annual budget going to support personnel and operational costs, the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department has very little flexibility to develop new programs and encourage innovation. The role of the Foundation is not to displace funding for basic law enforcement, or to reduce in any way the responsibility of the City of Palm Beach Gardens to commit the necessary funding for law enforcement services for its citizens. As modern law enforcement strategies and techniques continue to be more complex, the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department, similar to police departments across the country, has increasing needs to stay current with crime fighting strategies and innovative technology.
