Video shows how to survive an office attack
A video, funded by a Homeland Security Grant and produced in Houston Texas, has been posted on the City of Palm Beach Gardens website. The video shows how individuals should respond during an attack. “Run. Hide. Fight. Surviving an Active Shooter Event” is a six-minute video that opens showing a man mixing with workers as they go about their day-to-day activities. He later unpacks a firearm from his backpack, shoots a security officer and then several office workers. Palm Beach Gardens Police Commander William Brandt commented on the video: The video was posted to give viewers instructions on what to do in case of such an attack. You do not have to be a victim. The video shows that you do have options. Nearby Juno Beach Police Chief Brian Smith said: People are not going to forget what they see on this video. The violence is there to save lives. Palm Beach Gardens Vice Mayor viewed the video and had this reaction: I didn’t enjoy watching it, it’s scary... but the message will save people’s lives. Foundation’s Annual Fund Raising Appeal Is Currently In Progress
The Annual Fund Raising Appeal of the Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation began on November 15th, 2012 as residents and businesses within the city received a package detailing the work of the Foundation. The aim of this year's campaign is to enlist additional community support and financial donations. In past years community support has funded numerous items including the purchase of two K9 police dogs; specialized equipment to quickly locate “at risk” individuals with cognitive disorders who are at a constant risk of wandering including those with Alzheimer’s disease, Autism, and Down syndrome; night-vision cameras; wireless fingerprint identification scanners and advanced training for Police Officers in the management of rape and domestic violence cases. The current economic situation means that fewer tax dollars are available for new technology, strategies and in-service training of our police officers. Protecting a city like Palm Beach Gardens requires constant vigilance and a commitment to staffing, equipment and expertise. When it comes to making sure our Police Officers have what they need to keep us safe, the Police Foundation and the support of our donors helps insure that the Department keeps pace with the rapidly evolving changes in law enforcement. “2011 has been a banner year in Palm Beach Gardens. Thanks to the dedication of our Officers and the support of our citizens, safety programs have increased and the new Emergency Operations Center is fully operational”, stated Tom Murphy, President of the Foundation. “My personal thanks to everyone in advance for helping us to attain 100% participation from our residents and business owners during this year's campaign.” “We're making a difference in the safety of our city... we can do more, if we have your support.” You can read the kickoff PRESS RELEASE here. … [Read more...]
