Foundation Donation to Veterans Hospital

The Police Foundation recently partnered with the City of Palm Beach Gardens to help manage the Mayor’s Veterans Golf Classic which, for many years now, has raised funds to help support the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Palm Beach. The Foundation took on the task of managing all the games of chance at the Classic.… things like the “closest to the pin” contest, “hole-in-one” contest, “longest drive” etc.

The Golf Classic is designed to honor our community’s veterans and to thank them for their service.

Noting that some 30% of our Palm Beach Gardens Police Officers are themselves Military Veterans, and many of them are still in the Active Reserves, the Foundation decided to increase the amount raised by the games of chance and to make a full $5,000 donation to the Veterans Hospital.

Pictured below are Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation President Tom Murphy (l) and Palm Beach Gardens Mayor Eric Jablin (r) presenting checks to Ms. Charleen Szabo, Director of the WPB Veterans Medical Center at the February City Council Meeting.

The checks represented the proceeds from the Mayor’s Veterans Golf Tournament as well as the donation from the Police Foundation. The total donation was over $27,000.

8th Annual Golf Tournament Scores Big Success

Saturday, October 17th was a perfect day for golfing and 168 golfers enjoyed the day at PGA National Resort and Spa. The occasion was the Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation’s 8th Annual Golf Tournament benefiting Police Explorers and Youth Programs. As golfers registered, the excitement was building and continued throughout the day and included breakfast, 18-holes of golf and a terrific luncheon and awards ceremony as well as tournament attire.

This year’s tournament exceeded expectations and was a day of records with more players and sponsors than ever before, and more additional donations through the raffles, silent auctions and various golf contests. While no one scored a hole-in-one and went home with a new Porsche offered by Presenting Sponsor Braman Motorcars, everyone had a great time trying.

Winning the tournament on the Champion course was the foursome of Rich Geist, Glenn Wright, Pride Grinn and Dave Keller. Over on the Palmer course Ray Paley, Linda Post, Brent Waugh and Buzz Holland took home the trophy.

The Foundation appreciates all the support from the players, sponsors and volunteers who participated as well as all the local businesses who contributed raffle items, auction items and sponsored hole signs throughout the two courses. “Thanks also to the PGA Resort and Spa for its support during and leading up to the tournament” said Foundation CEO Tom Murphy.”

You are urged to be Car Smart…

It’s 2015, so you’d think everyone would lock their car doors, right?Car Smart

Wrong. People are NOT being Car Smart.  Palm Beach Gardens police have been responding to car burglaries in residential neighborhoods. In the majority of the cases, the vehicles were left unlocked with valuables in plain sight, the department said on its Facebook page. Police report they’ve increased patrols and arrested two suspects.

The thefts were in the Sun Terrace Court neighborhood Sunday, according to incident reports.

If you see anything suspicious, police say you should call 911. Don’t confront someone yourself.

“Operation Dine Out” enters final month

ODO-graphic2On Tuesdays in June, July and August, when you dine at any of our partner restaurants, a portion of the days’ sales will be donated to the Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation !

The Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation’s popular “Operation Dine Out” is entering it’s third and final month with outstanding support from both our participating restaurants, residents, diner and the local media.

During the month’s of June and July our participating restaurants reported significant additional business as a result of “Operation Dine Out” and the program has been well supported by local TV and radio stations as well as local print media, including a feature article in the Focus section of the Palm Beach Post.

While the summer months are usually the time of year when business is somewhat slow for most restaurants, our participating restaurants are finding themselves busier than normal, thanks to “Operation Dine Out.”

Chef Tyson Muchler

Kicking off the third month of the program, Police Foundation President Tom Murphy and his wife dined at Brio Tuscan Grille in The Gardens Mall on Tuesday, July 28th for a fantastic meal and an opportunity to meet with General Manager Tyson Muchler.  Tyson was named to his current position in November of 2014, having served as Executive Chef there for many years.  With over 14 years of experience with Brio|Bravo Restaurant Group, the parent company of  Brio Tuscan Grille, Muchler has an in-depth knowledge of both the culinary and service aspects of the restaurant business. He is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University, College of Culinary Arts, a leading edge 21st-century culinary education facility.

“Our meal was outstanding, as it always is” said Mr. Murphy, “we are thrilled with the support we receive from Brio, as well as all of our participating restaurants, and are pleased that they are seeing some increased summer business as a result of our Dine Out program.  We look forward to working with these seven restaurants and many more in the coming months.”

“Operation Dine Out” continues through August 31st and we encourage our local residents, friends and families to visit one of the participating restaurants on Tuesday evenings and help support the local economy as well as the Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation. Remember, “It takes a community effort to keep us safe.”
